Onimusha: Way of the Sword Developer Message Released, Onimusha 2 Remaster Announced

During the recent Capcom Showcase, the company revealed a message from the developers of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the upcoming new entry in the classic action game series. In the video, Producer Akihito Kadowaki and Director Satoru Nihei share their thoughts on the game, which is the first new main entry in the series in almost 20 years. Capcom originally announced the Way of the Sword during the Game Awards last December 2024.

According to Capcom, Way of the Sword will be set Kyoto during the Edo period and will feature landmarks such as the Kiyomizu-dera Temple and will star a new protagonist wielding the Oni Gauntlet in their fight against the demonic Genma. The game will also feature a mechanic where the protagonist will be able to absorb the souls of enemies in the middle of battle to either restore their health or use special abilities.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is scheduled for release sometime in 2026 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.

Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, which will be released on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam sometime this year. The classic action game from 2002 is the best-selling game in the series and was popular for its flashy gameplay and branching storyline.
