Xbox Developer Sessions: Five Games from Asia to Watch Out For

Xbox recently held its Xbox Asia Developer Sessions, that featured five upcoming games made by studios from the region. The members of the press in attendance were able to see bigger glimpses of these new titles and find out more about them straight from the developers. The five titles included 13Z The Zodiac Trials, Agni Village of Calamity, Vapor World: Over the Mind, Nightmare Circus, and Kriegsfront Tactics. Here’s a rundown of each of the five upcoming games from the Asia region:

13Z: The Zodiac Trials

Xbox Developer Sessions - 13Z: The Zodiac Trials

First up is 13Z: The Zodiac Trials from Singaporean studio, Mixed Realms. Dubbed by the studio as a hack-and-slash action roguelike, players go on a quest to become the 13th Zodiac. As it’s title and premise implies, the game takes a lot of inspiration from Shengxiao or the Chinese Zodiac, or Eastern Mythology in general. It features four playable characters, fluid and fast-paced combat, and co-op gameplay with up to 4 players.

To achieve their quest to become the 13th Zodiac, players must defeat the 12 Zodiac Guardians, although not all of them will present players with a boss fight. Some of the guardians will test players in other ways, such as undergoing specific challenges or quests.

The gameplay of 13Z looks pretty interesting, thanks in part to its roguelike structure and the option for co-op. While the visuals and art style of the game look reminiscent of games such as Genshin Impact, its roguelike and co-op gameplay may help differentiate it and stand out. 13Z: The Zodiac Trials is currently expected to release sometime in Q2 2026 on PC and Xbox.

Agni: Village of Calamity

Xbox Asia Developer Sessions - Agni: Village of Calamity

The next game presented during the showcase was Agni: Village of Calamity. Made by Indonesian studio Separuh Interactive, the games stars Agni, an investigator from a covert and elite Indonesian police unit as she investigates a remote Javenese village against the wishes of her superiors. Once there, the situation quickly becomes much more than just a routine case as Agni grapples with both the physical and psychological horrors she encounters.

The psychological survival horror game features gameplay that’s obviously inspired by the likes of classic Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Some of these include a fixed camera perspective, the inventory and resource management, and stalking enemies.

The visual quality of the game was surprising and incredibly impressive, which is further emphasized by its cinematic storytelling inspired by David Lynch films. Agni: Village of Calamity feels like a love letter to classic horror fans as well as Indonesian folklore, and everything shown so far has been incredibly promising. There’s no release date yet for Agni but it should be out soon.

Nightmare Circus

Xbox Asia Developer Sessions - Nightmare Circus

In spite of what it’s title may imply, Nightmare Circus isn’t exactly another horror game. On the contrary, it’s an isometric action-adventure title that features cute doll-like characters in a dark, circus-themed world. Made by Thai developer Fairplay Studios, players take on the role of a puppeteer trapped in the Nightmare Realm. They must fight to save the other members of their wandering Circus troupe and find a way to escape.

The game features a unique “Puppet String” mechanic. Players can use the puppeteer’s two puppet sticks as weapons and the puppeteer’s string for traversal, movement, and combat. The mechanic works with the game’s “Collision Combat” system that lets players utilize the string and their surroundings for combat.

Nightmare Circus looks like it could be a really fun and challenging experience that will test the creative ways players utilize its unique string mechanic. It will be coming to Xbox, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC sometime in 2026.

Vapor World: Over the Mind

Xbox Asia Developer Sessions - Vapor World: Over the Mind

The next game showcased was Vapor World: Over the Mind from Korean studio ALIVE Inc., a 2D sidescrolling Soulslike with Metroidvania elements and has a focus on deflection combat. The aesthetic looks to be a mix of Victorian goth and steampunk and features handmade 2D backgrounds that are layered upon each other to produce depth. The narrative-driven experience utilizes dreams as a major elements to its settings and story.

The Soulslike combat looks to be pretty challenging, with players needing to block or parry or dodge attacks while waiting for an opening to counter. Players can equip both melee and ranged weapons as well as utilize abilities called Projections.

Vapor World is looking like a very promising title, with its great visuals, interesting premise and settings, and its engaging combat. There’s no release date yet for it but it’s planned to be a 3-part series.

Kriegsfront Tactics

Xbox Asia Developer Sessions - Kriegsfront Tactics

Lastly, Kriegsfront Tactics from Indonesian studio Toge Productions will look very familiar to fans of the Front Mission series. The turn-based mecha tactical RPG adds some roguelite elements as well as a projectile hit system, foregoing the sometimes frustrating typical percentage based system. The game is set in an alternate 1970s Southeast Asia and players take on the role of mecha squad commander in the middle of a growing conflict in the region.

The game also features customizable mechs and recruitable pilots offering different skills, traits, and stories. During the presentation, Toge Productions shared a video message from Front Mission creator Toshiro Tsuchida, who gave the upcoming game his blessing after having tried it out.

Kriegsfront Tactics is definitely something to watch out for, especially for Front Mission and tactical RPG fans. A prologue is already available on Steam but the main game has yet to receive a release date.

A Lot to Look Forward to from Asia

The quality and potential of the games shown at the Xbox Asia Developer Sessions was pretty impressive and there looks to be something for everyone. There’s definitely a lot of talent in the region and I hope these upcoming games and the studios behind them are able to achieve their goals once these new titles are released.
